Microboards DVD / CD Printer and Duplicator Success Story

August 21st, 2008

When Techware Distribution, a Minneapolis-based CD printer and duplicator sales and service company, added Microboards disc publishers to its line of CD Duplication equipment, it had no idea the decision would transform its business. Techware Distribution went from selling and servicing CD and DVD duplication machines to copying and professionally printing on CDs and DVDs for its customers.

“We realized we could expand our offerings beyond CD duplicator equipment sales and service,” said Kevin Gabrik, Techware’s vice president of sales. “So we took the Microboards CD printers we sold and started marketing their end product — high-quality CD / DVD printing and duplication.”

CD and DVD duplication was a relatively new and expensive technology when Techware got into the business, so sales cycles were long and involved. Customers had to go through lengthy approval process to purchase the CD duplicators we were selling. Before long, potential buyers began asking Techware to duplicate their CDs while they waited to receive their own CD publishers.

Techware bought the original Microboards Print Factory CD printers (called the PF-1) in 2002. Customers flocked to Techware for its reliable, high-quality, low-cost disc printing and copying services.

Late last year we upgraded to the new Microboards Printfactory Pro printers (PF-Pro) with latest HP thermal inkjet technology. The new HP inkjet print engine prints disc images clearly and precisely—so CDs and DVDs get rich, full-color and full-coverage printing. Separate C, M, Y and K cartridges allow for more efficient ink usage and fast print speeds. Because you can change the large individual color ink cartridges one just one color is empty, the Microboards PF-Pro printer offers a very low-cost per print solution. Using the same reliable, high-quality HP thermal inkjet technology as the PF-1, the new PF Pro also prints at up to 4800 dpi for crisp, vibrant DVD images. Plus, the new HP technology allows for a printing cost of as little as 5 cents per disc.

In addition to their low cost and high efficiency, the Microboards printers — each with an input capacity of 100 discs — allow users to print runs unattended with no worry of running out of ink. Gabrik trusts the equipment to deliver reliable disc production overnight. “We know we can leave work and come back to 1,000 or more top-quality discs the next morning,” he said.

From sports highlights to music videos, Techware can duplicate and print more than 1000 discs in one hour and 15,000 in one day. Because Techware can duplicate discs at such high volumes, businesses rely on the company to help them produce high-quality training materials, presentations and marketing videos in record time.

Microboards’ award-winning CD / DVD duplication towers and printers are among the fastest and most reliable on the market, which means fast turnarounds are now Techware’s specialty. “Literally, people can come in and drop off their master artwork, grab a cup of coffee, and we do it while they wait,” said Gabrik. And with the high resolution and low-cost printing that HP technology gives Microboards printers, Techware’s quick turnarounds also show off exceptional CD and DVD printing quality.

Lightning speed, sharp CD printing and low cost per print. The qualities that drove Techware to sell Microboards duplicators and printers steered the company to also deliver the products the equipment produce. Today, Techware has over 30 Microboards printers and duplicators in their Minneapolis, Minnesota production facility and customer show room. “We’re still trying to grow,” said Gabrik, “and we will certainly buy more Microboards duplication equipment if our customer's demand increases. The speed, quality and efficiency of these systems help us give our customers exactly what they want.”
