Techware Duplication Room Featured Prominently in New Vinpower Spot!

Untitled-2 copyIn “You can’t make this stuff up!” news we received an interesting marketing communication via email this morning. Now it wasn’t the copy in the subject that caught our eye, it wasn’t even the message in the body of the email.

Something made us double take – something looked familiar???

Oh yeah that’s what it is, the image used. You see that is our dupe room, we understand their wanting to highlight it – I mean it is impressive after all. The strange thing is, we don’t ever remember that particular technician operating our Microboards duplication towers.

So off I went to our graphic designers for answers.  They informed me that through some magical high tech program called Photoshop (magic as of yet unconfirmed) one could remove our beloved Kevin and replace him with some two bit imposter.

Don’t be fooled by imposters, if you want high quality & high capacity CD or DVD duplication contact us directly at 952-944-0083.

Or you could always contact Vinpower to see if they can “schedule” some time in our facility to complete your job (*don’t really do that).

Sony & Panasonic Join Forces to Create Next Optical Disc Format

8ido18000000ibjx

Sony Corporation (‘Sony’) and Panasonic Corporation (‘Panasonic’) today announced that they have signed a basic agreement with the objective of jointly developing a next-generation standard for professional-use optical discs, with the objective of expanding their archive business for long-term digital data storage.

-via

This is good news for early adopters of 4K televisions as well as the medical imaging community and data centers alike.  As data continues to grow the demand for a cheap long term storage alternative to magnetic storage is still robust.

With metered data from major ISPs and the cost of data pipes increasing day by day (looked at your cable/internet bill lately?) this is welcome news.

One must ponder if this sets up Sony/Panasonics solution for a HDD vs Bluray type battle with the optical disk currently being developed at General Electric? Clearly GE has a captivated audience in their healthcare imaging sector with the gigantic files associated with modern day MRI/PET and CT scans.

Still the question remains- is the market big enough for two major players/formats?

Time will tell, for more updates about the current state of optical media and long term archival options such as CD/DVD, UDO and Magnetic Media please stop back often.

Pros & Cons of uploading your Master via FTP

networkingBlueCablesFTP Pitfalls

FTP or file transfer protocol delivery of content (masters) for duplication or replication can be a boon for some and a lifesaver for those with extremely tight deadlines.  While the convenience it affords is unparalleled – it is not always the best solution.

File transfer protocol is a method of transferring large files over the internet, files that are larger than email clients efficiently handle.  While we offer this method of master delivery on our publishing projects it does have a few caveats.

We do everything in our power to make sure that our customers receive the highest quality disc publishing available, but some of the pitfalls listed below are unavoidable.  We realize that many times physical location and near term deadlines necessitate the use of FTP. The items below are simply an attempt to educate our customers of the pros and cons of each master delivery option.

Pitfalls of FTP:

Pops, Hisses or artifacts introduced – we have found that some music files burned with masters created from files sent over FTP have a higher incidence of extraneous artifacts being introduced.

Incomplete transfers are undetectablewe receive thousands of masters and checking each music file or master for completeness is simply not feasible at this scale.  We do everything possible to assure complete files but sometimes it is impossible to determine if a song simply ended abruptly or if part of the file was missing.

Video files may appear stutter – we have noticed increase incidences of stutter, and freeze framing of digital video files on masters created from files that have been sent via FTP.

Track issues – many times files are uploaded at different rates and the order in which they are organized on the client may not be the same as they are organized on the server.  This can cause track ordering issues and potentially increase the turn time on your project.

Importance of working with a local CD/DVD Publisher

Whenever possible it is important to send a physical master for your publishing project.  A physical master alleviates the above issues and is the best method of master delivery. It is one of the many tangible benefits of working with a local CD printer. Make sure to research locations when evaluating your vendor options.

When you are gathering information for your next project, remember this simple message:

FTP delivery is best utilized with data disc publishing, not music or video.

Techware Distribution has been publishing CDs and DVDs right here in Minneapolis, MN for almost two decades and is here for all your disc publishing needs.

Imaging Exam CDs Reduce Patients Exposure to Radiation

am_logo_navWith todays ever increasing reliance on medical technology and imaging to diagnose and treat patients, reducing exposure to radiation is a key goal. On February 26th we came across an article in Aunt Minnie (a respected industry publication) that caught our eye. In the article titled “Reporting external exams reduces repeat imaging” Cynthia Keen discussed the study conducted by Dr. Michael Lu at UCSF that determined the findings reported in the headline. Custom Printed DICOM CD

This data strongly affirms the value and use of DICOM CD-R in the medical imaging community. Not only do the discs allow easy transfer of vital patient information but they now have been shown to actually reduce patient risk and exposure.
